so much to do, so little time...
Nobody's perfect, we all know that, so we thought we'd share with you a list of everything we either know we need to do, or would just like to do:
UPDATE: We thought you all might like to know that the following features have been approved to be added to our next release of Justincaseidie.com. We'll be starting this work very soon, and we should be live within 12 weeks (today is Tuesday April 6th 2008!). We'll stick a page up crediting all those who helped us get to stage 2 when we're done and dusted and confident it's working!
- Bugfixes and Typo's - Various emails about spellers and typo's have been flooding in, we'll get those resolved. Also, the email messages we're sending out are showing the HTML character - rather than the actual character - versions, so some of them are looking a bit messy. We'll sort that too, and this fix will automatically carry over onto any stored messages that haven't been sent yet.
- Reminder Messages - Probably the most requested modification, we'll be adding the ability to request a reminder email prior to your actual delayed message being sent out. The reminder email will contact the cancellation link.
- Quick Date Chooser - As well as a full time/date chooser, you'll be able to choose from a range of set time periods - eg '1 hour / day / week / month / year from now'. Used in conjunction with the next point, we think this is a great idea...
- Repeat Timeframe - By clicking on a single URL, you will be able to automatically increase the check-in time by the same time period you had last time...so, if you chose a deadline a week from now, a single click on the link we send you will increase that deadline by another week (from when you click on the email). The page will show you your new deadline, but we'll not send you another email.
- Showing Current System Date and Time - when we eventually get around to allowing you to choose your own timezone to configure messages, we want to make sure it's done right, so that's still on the list below. However, to make things easier, we think it will help you guys to know what timezone the system is working on, and what time it is to us.
And on the list of stuff we still want to do, but can't get around to yet...
- Timezones - we're currently operating on UK (GMT / BST) timezones. We know it would be nice to let all you international users work with Local Time. Letting you choose your own timezone is on the list.
- Varying Message Subjects - OK, so this site works along the 'If i die, you should know' theme...but it's useful for reminders, birthday wishes etc. We'll be adding the ability to change the content of the delayed message email based on the circumstances it's being set under.
- Accounts - We know it's a bit of a pain having to verify your message by email every time, but it's the only way to minimise abuse whilst providing such a quick and simple service. We'd like to get around to allowing accounts in the future, so once you're verified you can just log in.
- Multiple Recipients - most likely as part of the system upgrade to account logins and such, we think it'd be nice to allow multiple recipients on delayed messages...especially if you're using it for a reminder / Happy New Year type email.
- File Attachments - this is a biggy, and due to the virus scanning, storage and bandwidth problems it could cause, it would probably be a chargeable extra. We do see the value in being able to add attachments to delayed messages though, so it's something we're looking in to.
